TGIDIYFriday | Lemoncello

 Happy Holidays!

I truly can't believe this month's TGIDIYFRIDAY craft wraps up an entire year of DIY's. My how time flies! I'd like to think we've saved the best DIY for last. To celebrate this joyous season, we are making merry with lemons. In other words, we're making homemade limoncello.

Also, the hi, friend gals have whipped up FREE, downloadable tags for this month's DIY. Once you see them, you will want them. They are that lovely. With four different color options, the tags are versatile and fun, and perfectly complement the limoncello we're making today.

Supplies Needed:
1.) 10 lemons
2.) 1 750 ml bottle of vodka
3.) 2 1/2 cups water
4.) 2 1/2 cups sugar
5.) Clear bottle for finished limoncello
6.) Downloadable tags
7.) Scissors
8.) Hole Punch
9.) String

Step by step instructions:
1.) Download the tags and print on heavy card stock and gather limoncello and gifting supplies.
2.)Using a vegetable peeler, remove the peel from the lemons in long strips (reserve the lemons for another use). Using a small sharp knife, trim away the white pith from the lemon peels; discard the pith.
3.) Place the lemon peels in a 2-quart pitcher. Pour the vodka over the peels and cover with plastic wrap.
4.) Steep the lemon peels in the vodka for 4 days at room temperature. You can steep for many more days than four, depending on the amount of lemon flavor you desire.
5.) Stir the water and sugar in a large saucepan over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, about 5 minutes. Cool completely. Pour the sugar syrup over the vodka mixture. Cover and let stand at room temperature overnight.
6.) Strain the limoncello through a mesh strainer. Discard the peels.
7.) Transfer the limoncello to bottles using a funnel (makes about 7 cups). Seal the bottles and refrigerate until cold, at least 4 hours and up to 1 month. Like most alcohol, Limoncello only gets better with time!
8.) Before gifting, cut out the tag, and tie it around the bottle with festive string.
9.) Share and enjoy with friends and family!

Finally, I want to thank Meg and Jen for letting me be apart of their inspiring business this year. hi, friend is near and dear to my heart and I'm incredibly blessed to know such driven and smart women. We've already started brainstorming and dreaming about DIY's, events, and new partnerships for 2012. Stay-tuned for more great goodies next year!

Make merry!
